How much does a Gorges du Verdon tour cost in 2026?

From $74 for a half day in the river near Castellane, and $126 to $182 for a full day trip. The private boat day is $1,430 per group.

What does the price include, and what is extra?

Transport, a driver-guide and the stops. Lunch, boat rental, entry fees and tips are extra on every shared day trip.

What extras should you budget for on the day?

Lunch, about €25 for an hour on a pedal boat, and €5 for the faience museum if you want it. Drivers add parking.

A pedal boat takes up to five people, so an hour costs a family of four about €6 each. That is the best value on the whole trip.

Is the cheapest Gorges du Verdon tour worth it?

Only if price decides it. The $126 trip from Nice rates 3.9, the lowest on this site, and guests mostly complain about short stops.

On paper the day is fine: Castellane and its rock, gorge viewpoints, about an hour in Moustiers, and the Valensole lavender in season. Groups run up to 16. The complaints repeat. Castellane is billed as an hour and guests report about 30 minutes, and an hour in Moustiers is not enough to explore and eat. Some found the guiding thin.

For $17 more, the lake day caps the group at eight and rates 4.6. Over a day this long, that is money well spent.

Is the small group from Nice worth paying more for?

Yes in June and July, when its lavender stop counts. The Nice day trip for eight costs $159, $16 more than the lake day, and adds a field on the Valensole plateau.

The listing title now reads "Private Trip", yet it is priced per person with eight guests at most. Check what you are buying on the booking page. One guest arrived to find the lavender already harvested, without warning, so pick a date before mid-July. Another found the guide spoke mostly French: ask about the language if it matters to you.

Outside the bloom, the lavender stop is a field of stalks and the price gap buys you nothing. Take the lake day instead.

How much does a private Gorges du Verdon tour cost?

The private boat day from Aix costs $1,430 for up to six people, about $238 each when full, with a 2-hour electric boat in the canyon and a picnic included.

Happy Day In Provence runs it from the Paul Cézanne statue in Aix, 7 hours in all: lavender off the main roads between 15 June and 30 July according to the listing, a boat you drive yourself into the canyon, a Provençal picnic with local wine, then Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon and Moustiers. Is a tour cheaper than renting a car?

It depends on how many of you there are. A tour is priced per person and a car per vehicle, so the bigger the group, the better the car looks.

A driver pays for the rental, fuel and parking: €2.50 an hour at Point Sublime in season, a €2 disc in Moustiers. The bigger cost is the driving itself. You take the bends of the D952 while everyone else looks at the view, and part of the Route des Crêtes is one-way and narrow. Nobody in the car tastes the wine.

Couples and solo travellers usually come out ahead on a shared tour. Families of four or more, and anyone who wants the Route des Crêtes or an early start, should price a car. The Verdon without a car compares the options.

How do you avoid paying for a disappointing day?

Match the tour to the month and read what each stop really is. Lavender tours after mid-July, and boat plans without the time for a boat, are the usual regrets.

• Lavender: in 2026 the harvest on the Valensole plateau began on 29 June. A "lavender" tour in August mostly passes cut fields.
• Boats: no shared tour includes one, and lake free time rarely covers two hours plus a summer queue.
